Abstract
Already in 1910, Forster and Newman studied the addition of bromine at vinyl azide in aqueous solution in order to prepare ethynyl azide by elimination of two molecules of hydrogen bromide. 1 Due to the explosion-like course of the reaction and the high sensitivity of the addition product to generate bromoacetaldehyde by hydrolysis, however, the desired 1-azido-1,2-dibromoethane could not be characterised.
