Abstract

Deprotonation and alkylation of the a carbon of amines has been effected in various ways which involve the use of a masked amino Prominent among these methods is the use of N- nitroso amines4 and NJV-dimethylamide~.~ However, the potential carcinogenicity of the former and the steric bulk required in the latter render these approaches to alkylated amines less than desirable.
