Abstract A new catalytic retro-pinacol/cross-pinacol reaction, followed by subsequent rearrangement or deoxygenation of the intermediately formed vicinal diols, is described. This operationally simple one-pot protocol allows isolation of geminal α, α-diphenyl ketones
