用途一：主要用于棉及维/棉混纺织物的染色
用途二：用作农药、染料中间体及溶剂抗氧剂等
用途三：主要用作苯代三聚氰胺等高级涂料的中间体，也是合成农药、脂肪族胺、苯甲酸的中间体，并可作为腈基橡胶、树脂、聚合物和涂料等的溶剂。苄腈衍生的系列中间体主要是：苄基胺、苯甲酰胺、硫代苯甲酰胺、卤代酰亚胺、亚胺酸酯、硫代亚胺酸酯、偕胺肟、肼等等。

苯甲腈制备

1.由苯酚亚硝酸钠及硫酸进行亚硝化，制得对亚硝苯酚，与溶解在硫酸中的邻甲苯胺进行缩合，再用具有一定硫反映数的多硫化钠进行还原和硫化，而后通代气氧化，最后经过滤、干燥、粉碎及标准化处理而制得产品。

2.用苯甲醛与羟氨邻磺酸反应生成羟氨磺酸盐，该盐再与碱作用转化为苄腈。

精制方法：常含有苯及苯甲酸等杂质。精制时先将粗制品用水蒸气蒸馏，馏出物分去水层，有机层用碳酸钠水溶液洗涤，再溶于乙醚中用水洗涤，氯化钙干燥，蒸去乙醚后减压分馏。杂质含量少的苄腈可用硫酸钙或氢化钙干燥数日后，在五氧化二磷存在下，反复蒸馏2~3次。

3.可由甲苯经氨氧化，或由苯甲酸铵经干馏而制得。
