由于其高热稳定性及高强度、高热传导性等特性,广泛应用于原子能材料、化学装置、高温处理、电加热原件及电阻器等中。用于磨料、磨具、高级耐火材料、精细陶瓷。

用作树脂、金属等复合材料的补强纤维,亦可作电波吸收材料及耐热材料。
用作复合材料的增强材料,起到等方向性增强作用。与塑料、金属、陶瓷构成复合材料可改善各种特性。可与热塑性、热固性树脂构成复合材料,显著地提高塑料的强度、弹性模量、热传导性、耐磨性等。在PEEK中添加15%碳化硅晶须,热传导性提高大约2倍,用20%碳化硅强化的聚酰亚胺的抗挠强度在常温下提高大约2倍,在250℃的高温下与常温下未增强的情况相同。在环氧树脂中添加15%碳化硅时,磨损量降低17%。

碳化硅制备

由砂与适量的碳放在电炉中加热而得。 图XIV-8 Lely电炉 A-石墨圆筒;B-绝热区;C-石墨棒;D-石墨发热体;E-单晶成长坩埚;F-测温用观察缝;G-测温窗 二氧化硅碳化还原法把平均粒径0.01 μm的二氧化硅粉末1份(重量份,以下同)与平均粒径0.05 μm的炭粉末2份及平均粒径0.1 μm以下的微细结晶性β型碳化硅粉末0.04份混合,然后放入石墨容器中,在氩气流下(流量:2 L/min),在1600℃反应5h,再将反应生成物在空气中,在700 ℃加热2h,以除去残留的炭,制得β型碳化硅粉末产品。其反应式如下:
SiO2+3CSiC+2CO 碳化硅纤维的起始原料是沸点为70 ℃的液体二甲基二氯硅烷。将其与金属钠作用。在比钠沸点高的惰性有机溶剂中,熔融状态的钠被分散,在其中滴下二甲基二氯硅烷,脱盐酸反应的同时生成聚硅烷。将聚硅烷在惰性气氛中加热到400 ℃以上时,发生热转移反应和聚合反应,生成中间产物聚碳硅烷。将其熔融纺丝成纤维。得到的聚碳硅烷纤维在煅烧工序进行高温处理,由于空气中的氧而发生架桥反应,通常在氮气氛中进行热处理,在温度为1200~1500℃制得强度高的碳化硅纤维。 图XIV-9 气相反应合成装置 A-氢气入口;B-氢提纯装置;C-流量计;D-恒温浴;E-测温用棱镜;F-气体出口;G-石英玻璃管;H-基材;I-高周波感应线圈;J-基材架;K-石英玻璃管 2.在内部具备间壁的石墨坩埚里,放置原料碳化硅。用以石墨为发热体的Lely电炉(如图),将坩埚加热至2200~2600℃,使原料SiC在坩埚低温部分升华,即制得高纯碳化硅。该法可制得较大型的α型碳化硅,缺点是容易包含细微炭粒。 3.利用上述以石墨作电阻的Lely电炉加热,在石墨坩埚中使碳溶解在熔融的硅里,利用温度差可使碳化硅单晶析出。与前法相比,可以较低的温度(约1500℃)析出结晶,这主要适合于β型碳化硅的合成。此法虽不包裹前法那样的炭粒,但是由于是在硅过量的情况下合成的,所以在结晶成长过程中,硅溶液容易渗进内部,此为该法缺点。 4.以四氯化硅、四氯化碳及氢气为原料,把混合气体送到感应加热的供结晶生长用基材上,使之反应。与此同时,使碳化硅结晶在基材上析出。根据反应气的浓度比,结晶生长温度,输送气体的流速,结晶生长用基材种类等条件的不同,其析出的结晶形状有所改变。当SiCl4/CCl4=1.4~1.8(摩尔比),结晶生长温度1400~1500℃,氢气流速120cm/min以下的场合,得到须状结晶。超过这个范围则生成粒状结晶或在基材表面形成薄层(图)。

该法的优点是可在较低温度下得到碳化硅结晶。 采用活性碳纤维法。将活性碳纤维和二氧化硅在真空中于1300℃反应1~3h,其反应过程是使二氧化硅在活性碳纤维细孔内反应,使其生成碳化硅,将碳化硅在氮气中并于1600℃下进行加热处理,即得碳化硅纤维。 5. 采用硅石还原法。将高纯二氧化硅石和石油焦混合,做成10mm以下粒状,放入间接式电阻炉中,通电10~30h,在1800~1900℃反应,超过2000℃会使反应生成的SiC分解。通电完成后即反应完全,放冷,将生成的碳化硅破碎、粉碎、水洗,得到粒状产品。
