其制备方法是在反应釜中加入哌啶、甲醛，最后加甲酸，加热，保持温度90℃，反应6h，冷却，向混合物加入盐酸，升温加热蒸出过量甲醛和甲酸，残留物冷却，加入氢氧化钠，升温蒸出1-甲基哌啶和水混合物，此混合物经固体氢氧化钠干燥，放到蒸馏釜中蒸馏得产品。
