Abstract Phosphonoalkylation of acylchloro-phosphates or-phosphinates in the presence of excess lithium diisopropylamide leads to direct generation of lithiated methylene- diphosphonate anions. This stable type of anion can be either protonated in acidic medium to provide tetrasubstituted methylenediphosphonate or alkylatd.
