The scope of the process with respect to amine structure was investigated next (Table 2). Optimisation studies (Table 1) had shown that isolation of the enamine products was difficult due to decomposition (hydrolysis), therefore to unequivocally determine that CN bond formation had taken place we elected to reduce the enamines in situ to generate the corresponding amines.
