2-Methyl-2, 4-pentanediol recently has become a cheap commercial compound. The sole ester derivative reported in the literature, though, is the diacetate, prepared from acetic anhydride at reflux. 2 An interest in the esters as solvents and plasticizers led us to the preparation of some aliphatic monoesters and diesters, and a dibenzoate.
