在隔绝空气的条件下，向硝酸钴的溶液中通入硫化氢，将生成的沉淀分离出来后，在100～500℃的温度范围内缓慢升温干燥处理90h，生成NiAs型硫化钴CoS。也可以将金属钴粉与硫磺按等摩尔比在真空下封装在石英管中，在700℃下加热72h，然后放入水中进行急冷，可生成无定形CoS。
