Treat symptomatically and supportively. Skin Contact After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water. Gently and thoroughly wash the contaminated skin with running water and non-abrasive soap. Be particularly careful to clean folds, crevices, creases and groin. Cover the irritated skin with an emollient. Seek medical attention. Treat symptomatically and supportively. Wash any contaminated clothing before reusing. If the victim is not breathing, perform artificial respiration. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband. If Inhalation breathing is difficult, oxygen can be administered. Seek medical attention. Treat symptomatically and supportively. IngestionINDUCE VOMITING by sticking finger in throat. Lower the head so that the vomit will not reenter the mouth and throat. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt, or waistband. If the victim is not breathing, administer artificial respiration. Examine the lips and mouth to ascertain whether the tissues are damaged, a possible indication that the toxic material was ingested; the absence of such signs, however, is not conclusive. Seek immediate medical attention and, if possible, show the chemical label. Treat symptomatically and supportively. Section V. Fire and Explosion Data Not available. Environmental Fatep-Nonylphenol's production and use in the preparation of lubricating oil additives, resins, plasticizers, surface active agents, in stabilizers, petroleum demulsifiers, fungicides, antioxidants for rubbers and plastics, and as a starting material for the production of phenolic resins may result in its release to the environment through various waste streams. A major source of p-nonylphenol in the envrionment is as a biodegradation product of nonylphenyl ethoxylates. p-Nonylphenol has been identified in drinking water, ground water, river and lake water, sewage treatment plant effluent, and is a prominent contaminant in sewage sludge. If released to soil, p-nonylphenol will have no mobility. p-Nonylphenol will not be susceptible to direct photolysis on soil surfaces or in water based upon its lack of absorption of light at wave lengths >290 nm. Biodegradation of p-nonylphenol will occur rapidly in aerobic soils, but is inhibited in anaerobic soil conditions. If released to water, p-nonylphenol should adsorb to suspended solids and sediment. p-Nonylphenol may volatilize from water surfaces based on an estimated Henry's Law constant of 3.4X10-5 atm-cu m/mole with estimated half-lives for a model river and model lake of 1.8 days and 18 days, respectively. Volatilization half-lives from a model pond, can be estimated to be about 19.6 days if the effect of adsorption to sediment is ignored and 5.8 years when the effect of maximum adsorption is considered. Experimental BCF values of 281, 1300, and 3400 suggest that p-nonylphenol will bioconcentrate in aquatic organisms. Biodegradation of p-nonylphenol should occur rapidly in water. If released to the atmosphere, p-nonylphenol will exist in the vapor phase. Vapor-phase p-nonylphenol is degraded in the atmosphere by reaction with photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals with an estimated half-life of about 7.5 hours. Reactions with nitrate radicals may also be important. The general population may be exposed to p-nonylphenol through drinking water.(SRC) Section XIII. Disposal Considerations Recycle to process, if possible. Consult your local or regional authorities. You may dissolve or mix material with a Waste Disposal combustible solvent and burn in a chemical incinerator equipped with an afterburner and scrubber system. Observe all federal, state, and local regulations when disposing of this substance. Section XIV. Transport Information DOT Classification DOT CLASS 8: Corrosive liquid.
