Abstract

Reaction of PhCH2SOZCHBr2 with methoxide ion at 0" gave methyl trans-/3- phenylethenesulfonate as the principal product. At higher temperatures and higher base concentrations appreciable quantities of phenylacetylene and some styrene were obtained.
