Abstract

It has been shown that carboxylic acids having certain electron-withdrawing groups attached to the a-position to the carboxyl group can be made to undergo a decarboxylative acylation reaction in the presence of an acylating agent and a base to give a compound in which the original carboxyl group is replaced by an acyl group.
