Abstract

A novel dehydrating reagent consisting of the I 2–pyridine–liq. SO 2 system has been examined in order to obtain acid amides from carboxylic acids and amines in liq. SO 2. Among the amines, aniline gave the most satisfactory results. A fairly good yield was also achieved when the SO 2 Cl 2–Py–SO 2 system was used in place of the I 2–Py–SO 2 system.
