Abstract: Oriented monolayers of an w-unsaturated fatty acid (1 7-octadecenoic acid, C 18: 1 17) have been prepared at the air-water interface and transferred to the surface of clean platinum foils. When the platinum-supported monolayer is exposed to dihydrogen, the olefinic group of the acid is hydrogenated.
