Waltonitone is a ursane-type pentacyclic triterpene isolated from Gentian waltonii Burkill. Waltonitone significantly inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma cells growth and induces apoptosis in vitro and in vivo[1].

waltonitone (10 μM, 25 μM; for 48 hours) results in an increment of sub-G1 population in BEL-7402 cells[1]. Waltonitone (25 μM; for 48 hours) induces BEL-7402 cells apoptosis[1]. Waltonitone (25 μM; for 48 hours) can effectively activate caspase-3 in BEL-7402 cells[1].
