Abstract
Summary It has been found that dimethyl and diethyl maleate react in the presence of large quantities of benzoyl peroxide to give the corresponding esters of phenylsuccinic acid and of tetracarboxylic acids which are probably stereoisomeric forms of tetralintetracarboxylic acid. Some higher molecular weight products of unidentified nature are also produced.
