Abstract
Inasmuch as the ether was formed in prefer- ence to the nitrile, it appeared desirable to carry out the reaction in the absence of alcohol. Con- sequently a-chloroethylbenzene was heated with cuprous cyanide in the manner of the von Braun nitrile synthesis.
