Abstract
The classical Willgerodt reaction involves heating an aryl alkyl ketone with ammonium polysulfide in a sealed vessel and results in formation of a thioamide with the same number of carbon atoms.1,2 Reaction times of several hours are com- mon and high pressure is caused by H2S formation.
