Abstract

tert-Butoxyquinones were prepared from the thermal ring expansion of 4-alkynyl-, 4-alkenyl-, and 4-aryl-tert-butoxycyclobutenones and shown to be readily converted to hydroxyquinones upon treatment with tri-fluoroacetic acid at low temperature.
