Abstract

Ozonolysis of substances containing an ethylenic double bond is a common method for the preparation of aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids. Very little has been reported concerning the treatment of nitrogen heterocycles containing an unsaturated side chain with ozone. a-Stilba-~ ole*~~ has been ozonized both in carbon tetrachloride and in concentrated hydrochloric acid to produce a-pyridylaldehyde and'picolinic acid.
