Abstract

F re~ ndler,~ in the preparation of bromo-acetaldehyde by the bromination of paracetaldehyde isolated a crystalline product which from the analysis he was led to believe was tetrabromobutyraldehyde (CH2BrCHBrCBrz-CHO), although as specifically pointed out by him, the compound possessed none of the usual aldehydic properties.
