Abstract

Stilbenes possess a range of potentially useful properties including anti-fungal,1 nematocidal,2 and anti-leukemic activity.3 Some stilbenes have been investigated as liquid crystalline additives to polymers.4 Pinosylvin and resveratrol are hydroxystilbene phytoalexins which are produced by a number of plants in response to fungal attack.5 In connection with the synthesis of novel fungicides modelled on these stilbenes, we have examined the preparation of a ...
