Abstract

Vinylpyrazine (V) has been prepared in five steps from ethylenediamine. N-(2- Hydroxypropyl)-ethylenediamine'from ethylenediamine and propylene oxide was cyclized to 2-methylpiperazine (11) by a method described previously. Catalytic dehydrogenation of 2- methylpiperazine with copper chromite catalyst yielded methylpyrazine (111).
