Abstract

Michael type additions of primary or secondary nitro paraffins, gemdinitro paraffins and nitramines are successfully carried out with secondary nitro olefins generated in situ. The nitro olefins form readily from the corresponding 2-nitroalkyl acetates, in the presence of sodium acetate or the salt of the nitro compound in hydroxylic and non-hydroxylic media.
