Abstract

Summary 1. Retenequinonimine and phenanthraquinonimine have been shown to react with aldehydes, in the presence of amines, to form 2-substituted retenoxazoles or phenanthroxazoles. 2. The first step in the reaction has been shown to consist of an aldol- type of condensation, with the quinonimine supplying the labile hydrogen.
