丙酮酸脱氢酶可参与到丙酮酸脱羧酶复合物(PDC)中丙酮酸的脱羧和硫辛酸的还原乙酰化。丙酮酸脱氢酶激酶(PDK)可使丙酮酸脱氢酶失活,而丙酮酸脱氢酶磷酸酶则能激活丙酮酸脱氢酶。
