Abstract

-_ _ conversion of a ketone to an a-diketone, for example, has been employed in the synthesis of colchicine, ls strychnine, lb and other natural products. There have been important applications of a-keto lactam formation in synthesis, ranging from the preparation of senecio2 and vasicine al-kaloid~~ to the synthesis of P-lactams4 and derivatives of penams and cephams. 6 In addition, there is intrinsic
