Abstract: N-Arylhydroxylamines react with benzene in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) at room temperature to give diphenylamines. When TFA was replaced by a strong acid, trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TFSA), the major products were aminobiphenyls.
