Abstract: The synthesis and characterization of amphiphilic amino acids containing either cysteine or homocysteine are described. Upon ultrasonication, these lipids form liposomes. The spherical structures were confirmed by electron microscopy and by the entrapment of 6- carboxyfluorescein. In addition, these lipids can form giant liposomes which are detectable by light microscopy. The amino acid liposomes can be converted into peptide liposomes ...
