以对硝乙酰苯胺、碘甲烷和乙醇为原料制得。将丙酮、对硝基乙酰苯胺、氢氧化钾混合后加热回流，并滴加碘甲烷的丙酮溶液，加毕，继续回流4h。放置过夜，回收丙酮后析出结晶，放冷洗去碱性，以乙醇洗涤而得N-甲基对硝基乙酰苯胺。然后将其与乙醇、盐酸混合，加热回流8h，回收乙酸乙酯和乙醇，再用水中冲稀，洗去酸性，干燥得到粗品。用丙酮溶解粗品，过滤，回收丙酮析出结晶即为成品。
