由葡萄糖酸钙经降解、氧化而得。将葡萄糖酸钙和水一起加热溶解，加入乙酸钡溶液和硫酸铁溶液混配而成的铁触媒。搅拌升温至95℃，滤去沉淀。清液于40℃加入双氧水氧化，反应温度不超过56℃，反应半小时。反应液变为黑色后静置半小时，降温至40℃，再加入双氧水，按上法氧化。半小时后加入草酸，过滤，除去草酸钙。将滤液真空浓缩至糖浆状，温度不超过48℃。加无水甲醇溶解，放冷结晶，过滤。滤饼用甲醇洗涤，干燥得粗品。粗品用甲醇重结晶，得D（-）-树胶醛糖。另一种制法是将葡萄糖酸钙和葡萄糖酸铁一起用双氧水氧化，反应物过滤后用强酸性苯乙烯系阳离子交换树脂和强碱性季铵I 型阴离子交换树脂处理而得成品。
