【用途一】
主要用作酯化剂和硝化或磺化的脱水剂，也用于制醇酸树脂、染料和药物等
【用途二】
丙酸酐作为丙酰化剂于医药、香料和特殊酯类的制造，在医药工业中用来生产丙酸角沙霉素（抗生素药）、丙酸睾丸素（男性荷尔蒙缺乏症）、丙酸羟甲雄酮（抗癌药）、殊途同归酸氯地美松（肾上腺皮质激素类）和二丙酸倍他米松（肾上腺皮质激素类）等。在有机合成中也用作硝化、磺化反应的脱水剂，用于制造醇酸树脂和染料等。

由丙酸在235℃，8×105Pa下加热脱水而得。也可由丙酸钠与丙酰氯一起加热回流4h，再经蒸馏、分馏，收集165-169℃馏分即为丙酸酐。

精制方法：同五氧化二磷一起振摇几分钟后蒸馏。
