一般来说常采用蒸馏法、溶剂萃取法和微波辅助的溶剂萃取法。蒸馏又分为水中蒸馏、水上蒸馏、蒸汽蒸馏3种。在工业生产上常采用水蒸气蒸馏法提取茶树油。但是对于新鲜或干燥的互叶白千层枝叶原料，精油的得率无明显的差异。溶剂萃取法（以乙醇为溶剂）的得油率往往高于水气蒸馏法（高10%～20%）。单萜化合物的得率可提高4%～6%，倍半萜化合物的得率提高更为明显。由于溶剂萃取法不使精油组分发生较大变化，更符合枝叶中精油的组成状况，因而溶剂萃取法常用于植物品种的比较和筛选（如用于品种选育）。
