Abstract

(1) It is not readily obtained in a high degree otpurity and usually it contains benzyl chloride to various extents.(2) Traces of metal ions as well as of chloride ions catalyze further decomposition to be nzyl chloride on storage over longer periods of time even in the cold. Con sequently. the yields of benzyloxycarbonyl. amino acids are lowered and side reactions may occur particularly in the case of polyfunctional amino acids.
