将40%甲醛溶液、氰化钠水溶液及苯胺混合，再加乙醇使成均匀溶液。将此溶液加热，激烈反应并伴有氨气产生。当反应液不再产生氨气时，蒸馏除去乙醇，用酸析出沉淀。过滤，用稀乙醇重结晶，得纯N-苯胺基乙酸。
