Phenoxyethanol 具有广泛的抗菌 (antimicrobial) 活性。Phenoxyethanol 被用作化妆品、疫苗和纺织品中的防腐剂。Phenoxyethanol 对各种革兰氏阴性菌和革兰氏阳性菌具有广泛的抗菌活性。Phenoxyethanol 是呼吸作用氧化磷酸化的解偶联剂 (uncouple agent),竞争性地抑制苹果酸脱氢酶。Phenoxyethanol 被用作化妆品、疫苗和纺织品中的防腐剂。
