将哌啶、钠和吡啶混合，缓缓通入氮气流，搅拌下加热回流10分钟，冷却，在氮氛保护下将物料转入高压釜，以约1.1兆帕的压力通入乙烯，加热至100℃，压力升至1.54光帕，搅拌保温至压力逐渐下降。冷至室温，放出过量乙烯，将反应物进行分馏，收集129-131℃馏分，得N-乙基哌啶，收率77-83%。
