由丁酸经溴化而得。将正丁酸及三氯化磷先放入搪瓷罐中，加热至100℃时慢慢滴入溴素，温度控制在100-120℃，加完后保温8h，赶氢溴酸18h，然后经水洗，精馏而得成品。
