馨鲜酮（对羟基苯乙酮）等同产品，具有抗氧化、抗刺激、乳液稳定和广谱防腐能力。又具有较好的水溶性，解决了很多防腐剂或防腐替代产品不易添加的弊端，并具有抗刺激、抑制炎症因子的作用，为面膜中实现防腐剂的替代成为可能，故为防腐替代产品。由于其分子中含有苯环上的羟基、酮基，因此常被作为有机合成的中间体与其他化合物反应合成许多重要物质。

对羟基苯乙酮制备

由苯酚经酰化、转位而得。将苯酚和乙酰氯混合，缓缓加热直至氯化氢停止逸出，得到粗制的乙酸苯酯。加入硝基苯中，在冷却下投入三氯化铝，加完后在室温搅拌2-3h。然后倒入冷水中，加入1：3盐酸至清亮为止。用乙醚提取，再用提取液回收乙醚，然后进行水蒸气蒸馏，硝基苯及副产物邻羟基苯乙酮随时水蒸气蒸出，对羟基苯乙酮留在残液内。用乙醚提取残液，回收乙醚后冷却结晶即得粗品，用水重结晶即为成品。上述酰化操作可用乙酐代替乙酰氯，将苯酚与乙酐加热回流3h，即生成乙酸苯酯，收率约83%。在无水三氯化铝作用下转位也可不用溶剂。另外，将对氨基苯乙酮用亚硝酸钠重氮化、水解也可制得对羟基苯乙酮。
