是合成萜类香料如芳樟醇、香叶醇、香茅醇、柠檬醛、紫罗兰酮、龙脑、樟脑等的重要起始原料。可少量用于紫丁香等花香型香精和松针型中，极微量用于柠檬、香柠檬、肉豆蔻、香叶、薰衣草等香型中。微量用于食用香精，如柠檬、肉豆蔻等香精。
