N-氧代烟酰胺被认为是烟酰胺的体内代谢产物，烟酰胺是动物中烟酰胺 - 腺嘌呤二核苷酸（NAD +）的前体。催化肝脏中烟酰胺N-氧化物还原为烟酰胺的酶是黄嘌呤氧化酶。体外活性：烟酰胺是维生素B3的一种形式。它是烟酰胺腺嘌呤二核苷酸的前体，其最着名的是氧化磷酸化中的电子载体和许多脱氢酶的辅因子。它通过两个酶系统代谢。第一个系统开始于烟酰胺N-甲基转移酶对烟酰胺的甲基化，随后可被醛氧化酶氧化。第二个酶系统将烟酰胺氧化成烟酰胺N-氧化物。合成了一系列烟酰胺N-氧化物，并显示它们是CXCR2受体的新型，有效和选择性拮抗剂。化合物1已显示出对中性粒细胞趋化性的有效抑制（IC 50 = 10nM）。化合物2是IL-8结合的选择性拮抗剂（IC50 = 110nM）和中性粒细胞趋化性的有效抑制剂（IC50 = 170nM）。
