以丁二酸为原料，先脱水制得丁二酸酐，再与偏二甲肼在乙腈中缩合而得。操作步骤是：将丁二酸一次投入反应釜，升温至215℃左右，开始脱水，直至釜温升至260℃左右，出水量达到理论量。在缩合釜中投入乙腈，再中入丁二酸酐，当料温控制在18℃时，慢慢滴加偏二甲肼，反应结束后，离心过滤、干燥得比久。
