1.由异戊醇或异戊醛氧化得到。将高锰酸钾、碳酸钠和异戊醇加入水中，搅拌升温至50-70℃，反应3h，过滤，锰泥用热水洗涤。合并滤液，洗涤，浓缩。冷至40℃，缓缓加入硫酸至pH=2-3，静置，分取油层，分馏，收集173-176℃馏份，得异戊酸，收率48%。异戊醛用乙酸锰作催化剂，于30-40℃经空气氧化，所得产物进行蒸馏，收集173-178℃馏份而得成品，纯度达95%以上。

2.由异戊醇或异戊醛氧化而成。
由缬草直接分馏而得。

3.精制方法：用于水硫酸钠干燥后分馏。

4. 烟草：OR，44；BU，56；OR，26；FC，9， 18；BU，18；OR，41， 18；FC，BU，OR，40

5.制法：

于装有搅拌器的1L反应瓶中加入重铬酸钠200g，水400mL，搅拌溶解，滴加由80mL水，浓硫酸140mL，重蒸过的异戊醇（2）79g（0.9mol）配成的溶液（冷却至室温）。反应放热，保持反应不太剧烈的情况下，约2～2.5h加完。加完后回流30min。冷却，装上蒸馏装置，蒸出350mL。剩余物为水，异戊酸，异戊酸异戊酯的混合物。加入30g氢氧化钾固体，搅拌溶液，分出上层有机层，水层用1:1的硫酸调PH2～3。用四氯化碳提取（50mL×2）。保留提取液。将上面分出的有机层，同氢氧化钠20g，水25mL，甲醇200mL混和搅拌回流30min，蒸出甲醇。加水200mL，继续蒸馏，直至温度至98～100℃。冷后用稀硫酸调PH2～3，用四氯化碳提取（25mL×2）。合并四氯化碳提取液，无水硫酸钙干燥。蒸出四氯化碳，最后收集172～176℃^①的馏分，得异戊酸（1）55g，收率60%。注：①也可用高锰酸钾、碳酸钠、异戊醇，在水中于50～70℃反应制备，收率48%。
