The cytoprotective effect of prostaglandins is mainly through increasing the synthesis and secretion of gastric mucus; stimulating the secretion of bicarbonate from the duodenal epithelium; inhibiting the secretion of histamine, pentagastrin and gastric acid secretion from the digestive tract, and counteracting the vasoconstriction of thromboxane A2. And enhance cell repair capabilities. Prostaglandins used to protect the gastric mucosa mainly include Xi Ke Kui, esprost, leoprost, abaprost, trimoprost, and rosaprost.
