An organic compound isolated and extracted from a living organism in nature is called a natural product. They are formed in animals and plants through biochemical effects and photosynthesis. For example, starch comes from the seeds, stems and roots of plants; meat, dairy, eggs and grains, beans are the basic source of protein; many drugs such as ephedrine, menthol, snake gall, etc. are extracted from the corresponding organisms. Blue dye indigo, red dye alizarin, etc. are proposed from natural loquat leaves and alfalfa; natural spices musk, jasmine, rose, etc. are also from the corresponding animal and plant. The Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, began research on natural products in the early 1960s, began large-scale surveys of plants, amphibians and reptiles, and mastered a large amount of biological resources in the southwest and surrounding areas. In the research of active ingredients of natural medicinal plants, the chemical constituents of hundreds of medicinal plants were studied, and a batch of natural chemical components such as saponins, mites, alkaloids and flavonoids were isolated and identified, and some new structural skeletons were found. More than 100 kinds of new natural compounds; successfully developed a new botanical drug for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, "Dao Ao Xinxue Kang", sold well throughout the country, with an accumulated output value of 2.7 billion yuan and profits and taxes of 1.1 billion yuan.
